Background
I am a graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Game Design degree at DigiPen Institute of Technology in Redmond, Washington. Especially along the West Coast, DigiPen is a school well known for launching careers in game development and rigorously training their students with a variety of classes, solo projects, group projects, etc. to give them practical skills and as close to professional experience as a school could. As my degree suggests, I studied a dual-focused major and have experience in both Computer Science and Game Design. In the degree, I have focused on the design and implementation of gameplay systems, particularly paying attention to the quality of code, accessibility of my code to other members of the team, and the user experience of mechanics. This has allowed me to take on a variety of roles on my group projects including: Gameplay Programmer, System Designer, Tech Lead, and Tools Programmer. All these roles have given me an expansive amount of experience to draw upon for any team I join.
To use my passion, better train myself, and help others, I worked as a Teacher's Assistant and Lead Teacher for DigiPen's ProjectFUN Summer Workshops. ProjectFUN is an 8-week summer camp where I taught 1 to 2-week workshops for students from ages 4-18. These workshops covered a diverse amount of topics including C++ command line coding, Basic Electronics, Unity C# scripting, using Unity in general, source control in Git, and various Design skills (System, Level, UX, and Board Game Design). I was even selected multiple times to teach in a small team to kids in Canada, both in person and virtual. This experience helped me become a better team player and tested my coding and scripting skills to make intuitive code that even novices at coding could understand, reinforcing the basics of design I had learned, the delegation of tasks through my teaching assistants, and time management skills.
Since May 2021, I have worked for and am currently working with the wonderful game development team at BALANCED Media Technology. Here, I've transitioned from just a game dev student working on small-scale game projects in an approximation to the professional game developer world to a true professional in my field. I have truly spread my wings and have found a passion for working on small to grand gameplay systems to not only give life to the concepts from Design, Art, and Production but also develop in a way that provides a strong foundation for the gameplay to stand strong and grow down the line. The moment I had worked on a system for an extended period of time and my lead came in to review and join in the featured system saying, “Fantastic work on this decoration system: it's been incredibly easy to modify & is very modular/stable.”, I was hooked.
